Strawberry Cultivation:

Strawberry Cultivation in the hilly region of Kotia in the village Doliamba could bring a ray of hope among the farmers. It could only be possible due to the continuous support from KoraputAdministration and ITDA, Koraput. This initiative has not only encouraged the farmers of Kotia but also inspired many farmers in Koraput District.

Kotia is a place on the border of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Everyone knows about the dispute but this time it was known for the cultivation of strawberries. that too for the first time in Koraput. Many livelihood projects have been taken up in this place for the betterment of the people residing at Kotia.

For the first time, Strawberries cultivation is taken up in 5 acres of land in Kotia with full support from the Women Self Help Groups. The line transplanting and mulching were carried out with the application of Jeevamrutha.

The soil sample was taken and tested from this place and we know the cool climate of Koraput, this made it suitable for the cultivation of strawberries. 55,000 seedling plants were bought from Pune.

SDC Project Officer, Kashi Prasad Nayak estimated a yield of about 25 tons of strawberries from a 5-acre area. Community participation was very impressive and they took care of the plants very well

The people of Kotia were not getting the benefit of the livelihood projects. There is an irrigated land in Doliamba village and people came forward to take up strawberry cultivation. Strawberry is a potential cash crop that can improve the livelihood of the farmers said, Collector & District Magistrate, Koraput, Abdaal M. Akhtar.
